Do you buy wedding magazines to get ideas for your wedding? Real weddings rather than staged shots are one of the best sources of inspiration and give you lots of ideas.

This month’s Your Herts & Beds Wedding magazine Feb/Mar out now has a four page spread of pictures, tips and comments (pages 29-32) on one of our past weddings. Bride Jo and groom Chris had a lovely country wedding with a personal twist at the Tithe Barn, Tewinbury.

Country weddings – whether marquees on the lawn, open air ceremonies, barns, country houses are very popular – and as we are in rural Hertfordshire, something of a speciality for us. Coincidentally, the photos were taken by our favourite photographer Tamara Kuzminski and we are delighted with the result.

We have built up quite a list of venues that we cover now and receive many recommendations from venues, brides and their families. If you are planning your wedding for this year you can email us for a consultation or ask our top tips on choosing a florist on our contacts page at www.daizy.co.uk

Make your own Christmas greenery this year! You might like to make a Christmas garland for a fireplace or staircase or one of two designs for a table centre, complete with candles for your Christmas table or, last but by no means least a luxury Christmas door or wall wreath to give a real Christmas welcome.

We always have great fun at these classes which run in the morning and are relaxed and friendly. We get into the spirit of things with non-alchoholic berry wine, good coffee and homemade cake – which varies from day to day. All materials and refreshments are included, and everyone enjoys taking the results of their efforts home.

Small classes are being run from 10-1pm on 9, 10 and 12 December and 1-4 on Sunday 11 December. If you would like to join us, the classes are £50, with a £5 discount if you book by 15th November. Why not come with a friend- or buy it as a gift for a friend? You can call us on 01438 871448 to book – places go quickly.

If you are busy working and cannot join us we offer a range of seasonal wreaths and other floral items , or why not give one as a gift?

Much as we all love fresh flowers at Daizy sometimes it is not possible or practical to use them. For events lasting several days, at home if the owners travel a lot, in an office or shop or business environment where displays would be too exposed to heat or lack light for instance.

Brides often want to throw a bouquet but cannot bear to part with the original, or marry abroad in a hot climate. Silks are a real alternative here. And don’t let’s forget Christmas! Decorating the home and office with customised fake garlands, trees and displays can look so fabulous and we can install and pack them away for storage for next year! Although they can initially be more expensive silks are a long-lasting and effective alternative to fresh flowers

Top quality artificial arrangements can be a stunning alternative and the choice is increasing all the time. We have sourced a wide range of suppliers to give the maximum choice but reject around 75% of the flowers available to get the best quality available and are continually searching for new product to include in our range. So if you want to enhance your environment with a lasting display of colour and texture – why not fake it?

Flowers for corporate events have very different criteria to wedding flowers and in the middle of a busy summer wedding season where the trends are pale vintage and new romantic, it was lovely to design something in strong colours. Last week it was a Venetian masked evening in London with those attending resplendent in elaborate feather and sequin masks in rich jewel tones. We designed table centrepieces using tall black pedestal stands wound with gold rope and suspended silver filigree crystal drops at different heights. The arrangements featured ostrich plumes with spray orchid, deep burgundy lily and velvet roses as the main flowers, with flying green anthurium at the edge. Small groups of arrangements on the bar were matched in black gold braided vases and tiny glass mosaic containers in complementary jewel colours. The overall effect was rich and opulent and we all enjoyed it so much it didnt feel like hard work!

We had heard talk that this year would be the year when everyone scaled down everything to the minimum. Weddings would be small and inexpensive and wedding flowers would be a do-it-yourself effort. Instead, we have found that brides make up their own minds as to what is important to them. They want a fabulous day to remember be it large or small and they do what they have to do to make it happen!

So far this year we have two brides returning from Dubai, weddings in Hampshire and Kent (referred from previous brides) as well as local brides and weddings ranging from small and intimate to one with 500 guests. Venues are wide ranging. We are decorating a couple’s home for a celebration after their wedding abroad and afterwards a celebration at a country house. We are providing flowers for weddings in large country barns and houses, a manor house, hotels and even a farm. In fact, the days will be as individual as the brides themselves with our flower designs reflecting the favourite flowers of the brides with styles as individual as they are. Our fresh modern designs that will make sure that their celebration, however large or small, will be a day to remember. Which is exactly how it should be!

Well we all went home at the end of a busy 2010 saying that at least we could catch up in January as it looked to be a quiet month. How wrong we were! As well as a large new contract for artificial displays and numerous consultations for brides who wanted to discuss wedding flowers, we provided fresh floral displays for two events for Coutts bank within a week of each other. The first event hosted fashion awards and had a modern black and white theme with a brief for something a bit different. That got our creative juices going! We used black and white anthurium, twig and white orchid to provide the designs, which included a stylised dress centrepiece accompanied by modern black and white table designs with decorative wire and grids. Towers of white anthurium covered a large trellis of greenery. Apologies for the poor photograph but we were too busy to take them!

We hope to feature Maria’s wedding more fully with fabulous pictures of her and Mark on our website later on, but in the meantime, here are a few snaps taken by the Daizy team of the bouquet and the church and reception flowers. Great fun!

Wedding days are all about the wow factor, and this is particularly so at the reception, where flowers are repeated at the tables and really help to add colour, scent and style to the venue. Whether a rustic barn or a stately home, flowers can reflect your style and theme.

We are now being asked more and more for lighting. Either under water in the vases, wrapped around garlands of foliage for staircases or structures, trees or plants or even lights to highlight within single flowers such as large calla lilies. With the addition of coloured water or sisal, crystal stones, pebbles or rocks, shells or even marshmellows or limes, your venue can add a touch of drama to your special day.
